How many times have we heard the old adage of “mind over matter” or “If you really believe you can achieve”? A bunch, right? Well, there is a good reason for that, and it is because it works to some degree’! But what happens when it doesn’t work? Where do you go next?

Well, if you know your history, then you know that the father of modern psychology, Dr. William James has already answered this question over a hundred years ago. However, like most great minds he was way ahead of his time. And sadly his theory was just stuck in a back drawer somewhere and left for future generations to discover some 60 or 70 years later.

Well time did go by and future generations did discover Dr. William James’ work and couldn’t believe their good fortune and sad misfortune off all those that had gone before and didn’t know or use Dr. James’ “Act As If” principal of success.

You see the Greeks knew thousands of years ago about the mind-body connection. But somehow the connection wasn’t probably followed up on until recent times; post Dr. William James. Modern researches and psychologists now know that the mind-body connection isn’t just a one-way street where the mind has total control over the body.

When your mind is feeling tired and not up to the task facing you then do what all great athletes do. Jump around and get that body moving. Remember, motion creates emotion, and emotion fuels your mind. Once you’ve got that body of yours moving, then posture it and move it in an identical way that someone who has already successfully completed that task would be moving and behaving.  Trust me it works. Just try it.

Mimic the mannerisms of successful people and act as if you were already successful in whatever task lies before you and I think you might just be surprised by how alive, alert, and able your mind becomes. Suddenly, by “acting as if” there is no problem that your mind can’t figure out. Suddenly, problems are no longer problems, but now are puzzles and mysteries to be figured out. And guess what?  These challenges are kind of fun!

So go ahead and “act as if” and you’ll most likely be able to successfully fool your brain and emotions into believing that you are more successful than you have really been up to this certain point in time.  Keep doing this and you will be that successful! Let me repeat that. Keep doing this “acting as if” and you will be as successful as your mind already believes it is!

Now please share with the rest of us how you plan to use the Secret of “Act As If”!
