Our forefathers understood the importance of choice. Choice really is the underlying theme in our country’s revered Declaration of Independence. Its author, Thomas Jefferson, boldly proclaimed in this document to King George III of England that all of us humans have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We all remember these famous words from grade school, right? We have the right to choose if we should get to live. Nobody should be able to take away our life. We have the right to choose to be free. Nobody should be able to take away our freedom. And we have the right to choose to be happy. Nobody should be able to take away our happiness. This sounds pretty basic today, but believe me when I tell you that this was pretty revolutionary back in 1776.
Now, since our forefathers of this great country went to extreme lengths to get us these unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, shouldn’t we value our freedom of choice more than we presently do? Shouldn’t we try our best to make wise choices? After all, our forefathers really did sign their own death warrants by putting their names on the Declaration of Independence in pursuit in getting us this freedom and ability to choose how to live.
If we really took some time to think about our forefathers’ sacrifices for us, would we become more skilled at making choices that make life better for our loved ones and offspring, and their offspring, and their offspring too, just like our forefathers did? Remember to be humble and grateful for the freedoms of choice that we do have because it is quite possible that any one of us could have been born in another country that doesn’t offer freedom of choice to its citizens.
Now please share with the rest of us how you plan to use Granddaddy’s secret of, ”We all have the freedom of choice!”
