We humans want to be happy and fulfilled. It’s a basic human need. Most of human behavior stems from trying to be happy and fulfilled. We also try to avoid pain too, but avoiding pain is one of the roads we take to try to stay happy. It’s hard to be happy when you are in pain, right?
Since we aren’t hunters and gathers anymore, and we live in one of the most advance societies that this world has ever seen, we tend to have more opportunities now to avoid pain. At least we don’t have to worry about the pain from being eaten, right? Simultaneously, in our modern world, we also have more opportunities to pursue happiness and fulfillment than our Cro-Magnon ancestors of yesteryear did. So, with all these modern day opportunities, how do we become happy and fulfilled?
It’s simple. Be successful!
Being successful will make us happier and more fulfilled because we all love that feeling of setting a goal, overcoming obstacles, and achieving the goal. It makes us feel like we have done something important. This is Dr. Abraham Maslow’s highest rung of his triangle of the human hierarchy of needs called “self-actualization”.
In self-actualization, once our basic survival needs have been met, we are now in a place where we can establish meaningful goals. Once we are successful in making some of these goals come true they tend to bring some real meaning to our lives. This meaning or happiness and fulfillment feels great. Our basic primal instinct of pleasure is being met every time that we are successful in this modern complex world. Since we all have this basic desire to feel happy and fulfilled, or in other words, seek pleasure, and being successful can help us with that, then it tends to be a win-win when we win or become successful.
Now please share with the rest of us how you plan to use the secret of how we are supposed to be successful.
Thanks for your time,
Daniel Blanchard
