Well, Kristy, I never want to sound indifferent if I can help it when giving my advice, but here it is. Believe it or not, I got mostly C’s in high school. It made the traditional path a little more difficult for me to follow, but it didn’t stop me from eventually becoming successful anyway.
And while it’s true that my path was a little untraditional, I still did things that I’m proud of. I’m a veteran of both the Army and Air Force. I completed fourteen years of college and earned seven degrees. I’m a bestselling author, an award-winning speaker, and educator.
Something to consider, Kristy, is that maybe it’s just one of those classes in which the teacher is very demanding and believes that there is nothing wrong with a C. It doesn’t mean your child is doing poorly. It might just mean your kid is doing average in a tough class.
Maybe your child is having a few very challenging classes, or is even just having an off-year. Heck, some could have classified me as having a lot of off years during my time in formal education with all the C’s I got for grades.
But, as I said earlier, it didn’t stop me from finding success. And it won’t stop your child either, Kristy. Just have some patience and try to help your kid if he will let you. And if not, then just let your child know that you’re there for him and you believe in him without all the pressure.
Kristy, these days, success is rarely a straight trajectory from start to finish these days. In these modern times, success looks more like a spider web, where a move in one direction opens up a whole new set of moves that can go in many different directions. So don’t sweat it too much. Your boy will get there eventually. And the journey is going to be especially sweet if your child knows that you’re in his corner.
