Writing Better Emails that Make Some Money
Hey, my self-publishing indie authors, I want you to know that our email lists are precious. They are worth their weight in gold. If we don’t already have that mindset, then we need to shift our thinking to that mindset of treating our email lists like they were one of the most important things in the world.
One of the first things we’re going to do to guard them is to not bombard them with offers from others.
Yes, affiliate marketing and networking with others where we give them access to our email list seem tempting. It’s pretty easy to build relationships with influencers and maybe even make ourselves a few bucks through affiliate marketing.
But… if our people keep getting offers thrown at them to buy something from our associates and us, it could dilute the relationship we have with them. And a diluted relationship is bad for business.
Remember, people vote with their feet. They will walk away from us and our email lists if they sense we’re just trying to make a few bucks off of them.
The solution is to give them more of what they want. And if they willingly put their name on our email list, then that means they want us. So, let’s give them more of us, okay?
We give them more of our authentic selves by popping out more free content to share with them. We need to be content writing machines, so our people on our email list always have life-enhancing information from us at their fingertips.
In addition, we need to take all the free content, develop it some more, and make it into products and services, which further enhance their life even more that they can pay for.
I think we’re going to be really busy giving our people on our email list more of what they want, us. But that’s a good thing. It’s a win-win for all of us when we supply a steady drip of life-enhancing emails for our email list.
Keep this in mind, and we can build ourselves our awesome tribe list through our emails. A tribe list is about 1000-2000 raving fans who love who we are and what we do. Most email software packages are free for this smaller kind of tribe list. So that’s another win for us authorpreneurs, isn’t it?
We don’t want a turn and burn list. This is when we don’t really care about our list. We build it big, over 5000, which we now have to pay for, and we continuously throw stuff at them that isn’t always relevant. It’s salesy. A turn and burn list is always turning over because there is no underlying relationship present. It’s all about just making money on whoever is next.
When we write emails, they need to be relevant, and they need to be relationship-based. That’s how we write better emails that will build our tribe list and make us money down the road. Remember, this authorpreneurship business is a marathon, not a sprint. We don’t need to turn and burn to win this race.
Instead, we want others to run our race with us as friends and companions. We want our emails to consistently champion relationship-building content. Furthermore, in our emails, we will tell stories that will emotionally draw people deeper into a relationship with us.
And only after this relationship is developed through our story-like emails, will we begin our promotional emails. We will share the benefits our products and services offer our people in enhancing their lives during our promotional email phase. It’s about them, not us.
It’s important here to know the difference between a feature and a benefit. Too many of us spend all of our time telling everyone about the features of our products and services. We totally miss the big picture of the benefits. You see, people don’t care how fast something is. They just want to know what it can do to make their lives better.
Once our emails establish that relationship with others. Then when we explain how we can help them, instead of just sell them, we will have a life-long friend and customer with repeat business. And when this dynamic takes place through email, it limitless how many people we can help. And it’s mind-blowing how much money we authorpreneurs can make.
So get out there, and with these emailing concepts fresh in your mind, begin writing better emails that can make you some more money.
