Travel in Time Blog 1 Introduction Episode

Travel in Time: Uncovering History. Inspiring Leadership.

Hey everyone, Dan Blanchard here, and welcome to the very first blog post for my new YouTube channel, Travel in Time! I’m so excited to embark on this journey with you, where our past is going to lead us to our future.

As you saw in the introduction video, Travel in Time is all about exploring the fascinating places of our past. We’ll be starting right here in Connecticut, where I live, and venturing out to uncover some truly cool historical locations. Think mysterious jail cells, perhaps some old taverns, and definitely some significant Revolutionary War battlefields. And yes, I’m also planning on checking out some impressive castles!

But our exploration won’t stop at the Connecticut border. We’ll be expanding across New England, the Northeast, and even further to bring you to a wide variety of historical sites.

Now, I’m not just going to show you these places. As a social studies teacher, I’m passionate about bringing history to life. So, in each episode, I’ll be sharing a little bit of the history behind these locations.

However, Travel in Time is about more than just dates and events. A core goal of this channel is to draw out valuable leadership lessons from the past. I believe that by understanding how people acted and the decisions they made in different historical contexts, we can gain insights that are relevant to our lives and our future.

In the introduction, I touched on a few of the leadership themes we’ll be exploring:

  • Understanding true character and leadership – what does it really look like when things are tough? Anyone can seem like a good leader when times are easy, but true leadership reveals itself when things are not good
  • Considering what you do when people aren’t watching. This speaks volumes about a person’s integrity and true values.
  • The importance of looking for something that’s bigger than yourself. Great leaders often have a vision that extends beyond their own personal gain.

These are just a few examples of the leadership lessons that we’ll be discussing as we delve into history. My hope is that by connecting our history with principles of leadership, we can inspire a more prosperous and better future.

Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to announce that next week’s episode will take us to a very mysterious jail cell in Willimantic, Connecticut, where we’ll start uncovering some fascinating stories and, of course, some insightful leadership takeaways.

So, if you’re intrigued by history, curious about leadership, and excited to explore some fascinating locations, be sure to subscribe to the show, like this blog post (and the videos!), and share it with anyone who might be interested.

I can’t wait to have you join me on this journey through time. Get ready to see some pretty cool places, learn a bit of history, and check out some valuable leadership insights. Talk to you soon, and take care!
