Dear Granddaddy, I’m a high school senior, and I only have a 1.5 GPA. Is my future gone? Jason
No! Not by a long shot, Jason. Rarely in today’s modern times is our future a straight trajectory from point A to point B, or from our senior year in high school to our envisioned ideal life as a fully grown adult.
Today, life is more like a spider web. We are faced with a variety of moves we can make that could take us in many different directions. With each intersection we reach on that spider web of life, a whole new set of choices opens up. This can be pretty exciting and a lot of fun.
So, if your 1.5 GPA is blocking your entrance into a four year university, Jason, and yet you still want to go that route, then just do what Rudy from the movie “Rudy” and I did. Simply move ahead in a diagonal direction instead, by attending a community college. And once you graduate from the community college with good grades, you can finish up the last two years of your formal education with some of your old classmates at the four year university. You’ll graduate with the same exact college diploma as them.
Now, if school just isn’t your thing, don’t sweat that either. There are plenty of other things you can do, like join the military, go into sales, or even start your own business. And because life works in mysterious ways, one of these paths might even lead you back to school later in life, when you’re more ready for it. Or maybe you’ll find so much success on your path that you’ll stay right there, because you’re already happy and successful.
However, if you’re going to go down one of these life paths successfully, Jason, you’re going to have to remember that thoughts become things. You get what you usually think about the most. So you better stop thinking that your life is gone and start thinking a lot about the wonderful and exciting life still in front of you!
